The first sip of coffee in the morning is heaven
Hi guys! Since coffee makes my mornings so awesome, every day, I thought I should share with you this feeling. So lets star with the beginning. I wake up… Usually, after I wake up, the first thing that I drink is coffee. Real, simple, dark black coffee. And the moment this beverage touches my tongue, there is this immediate feeling of heaven. If the coffee is good quality and if the brewing was done correctly, the final taste should be, as I said, heaven! I use a french press to brew my simple coffee and nothing more. I don’t add sugar, nor milk or chocolate. The most important part in…

Community Fridge – Food sharing & a really great idea!
I got very excited to find out about a great food sharing project that takes place right now in Glasgow, initiated by Strath Foodsharing Group (see here their Facebook Page). There is a community fridge, placed inside a building, where anyone can fill it up with food and anyone can take food. The people behind this get help also from local stores and other non-profit organisations (Community Arts Centre The Space, Garnethill Multicultural Centre and the Foodsharing Network), who bring them almost out of date food, so that it won’t land into the trash can. I truly believe this is a great idea and I think it would do wonders if…

Watzmann and Wolpertinger: Cutest Bavarian Folklore
DISCLAIMER: Unlike my previous story about a certain Cucaracha who eats avocados and poops guacamole, these stories about Watzmann and Wolpertinger are real Bavarian folktales. I just retell them here because I think they are really nice and more people should know about them 🙂 Each country or region has its own beautiful folktales, fairy tales, myths and fantastic creatures. One of my future ambitions is to read as many folktales (from varied countries) as I can. For the moment I would like to introduce you to a really-really cute and happy Bavarian duo: the Watzmann and the Wolpertinger. Watzmann Watzmann is the name of a real mountain located in the Bavarian Alps.…

Be true to yourself – What does it really mean?
There are many “inspirational” quotes, but I think that most of them only sound nice, when, in reality, they are meaningless. Take, for instance, “believe in yourself”. It sounds good, it looks fancy, but, in fact, it is very abstract and impractical. Maybe it is a good quote for those who really have some psychological problems, but for the average person I don’t see the point of it. Be true to yourself I believe a good quote is “be true to yourself”. I am not sure about its origin, but it may be derived from “to thine own self be true”, a phrase in a monologue delivered by the character Polonius…

Is Central Park, New York, Really THAT Big?
Central Park New York has become, over the years, some kind of supporting actor in a lot of movies. There is always a kiss that happenes in Central Park, or someone is going to die there, or two people are supposed to meet there, or somebody rents an appartment near Central Park. Everyone jogs in Central Park and everyone takes a romantic walk in this park. In movies, everythings seems to gravitate around Central Park. Once, although I don’t remember where, I heard the line that Central Park constitutes New York’s lung, filtrating all the pollution and refreshing the air. So, having this considered, I may wonder: How big is,…

Cutest Guacamole Recipe [Not Really a Recipe]
Have you ever wondered how guacamole is made? Is there any “recipe” for guacamole? Where does it come from? What’s its origin? Well, I did wonder and this was the answer: In Mexico there is this tiny animal and his name is Cucaracha. This animal, although its name could be translated into English as “Cockroach”, doesn’t in fact have nothing to do with the insect. Cucaracha is a cute little animal, a little bit furry, who wears a big mexican hat. He is very friendly and brave. He always has a gun and he defends Mexico when needed. The girls are crazy about him. No one has succeeded in photographing Cucaracha. He…

The original source of inspiration for the Starbucks Logo (12th Century)
While reading the History of Beauty by Umberto Eco I came across to what it seems to be the source of inspiration of the Starbucks logo. There are many representations of two tailed mermaids, but they mostly date to 15th and16th Centuries, while the engraving I found in this book dates to 12th Century. I was really excited to see it because, if you remember well, there’s been a funny debate about the true meaning of the Starbucks logo. In the picture below you can see the original Starbucks logo (1971) and in the second picture there is the logo used since 1992. It was slightly change in 2011, but I think…

DIY Bookmark from a box of chocolate
I am a big fan of Lindt boxed chocolates. I bought this very nice looking chocolate box – Lindt Champs-Élysées. I had been wishing for it for a while and I was very happy to finally purchase it. I ate all the chocolates and they were really good, although I prefer smaller chocolates. I guess they are suitable for a bigger person, but I personally prefer them to be smaller, like those from this box: This is a box of Lindt Mini Pralines. The chocolates are half size and there are 2 chocolates of every kind, so it is really cute to share it with another person and eat the chocolates…

A strange habit of New Yorkers: the morning coffee
It’s been a while since a little problem keeps bugging me. It is about the way New Yorkers are depicted in movies regarding to their morning coffee habit. I’ve observed that in movies people tend to get up, get dressed, go out and buy some coffee, then return home and drink it. Really, what’s the problem with New York people?! There are tons of ways in which you can make your own coffee. Simple ways and more complicated ways. Ways for everyone. Isn’t it easier to get the coffee package, take some coffee into a spoon, put it in your cup and then fill it with hot water? (I guess…
