    Puma, the Cat from Atlantis

    Atlantis in our culture

When Discovery Channel wasn’t all about garages, gold rush and auctions, I was addicted to their (light) scientific broadcasts. This is how I learned about Ancient Egypt, about the Romans, about the Maya civilization and so on. This was also my first encounter with the story of Atlantis, that magnificent city which once, 10000 years ago, existed (maybe).

Then I saw that sweet movie, Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). I loved Milo’s determination and  Princess Kida’s mesmerizing blue eyes. Apart from the fact that the movie has a lot of funny moments, it casts a warming light over the story of Atlantis.

    Giant fruits and scientific wonders

Plato (c. 400 BC), the philosopher, mentions Atlantis in one of his writings. I think this is one of the oldest written references about the lost city. Some time later, the philosopher Francis Bacon has shown great interest in the discovery of the New World (America) and, consequently, in the story of Atlantis. He even wrote the novel New Atlantis in 1626. His book was published accompanied with this engraving:

This engraving shows the “wonders” of New Atlantis, but it alludes to our lost Atlantis as well. I remember that the thing that first stroke me in this engraving was the giant strawberry. Even though in the movie the Atlanteans are depicted as average people, the general stories tell that they were actually bigger than the people in the present time. Well, maybe they weren’t really giants, but perhaps they had a really good diet and life style, so they grew taller and stronger…

And this is how, if we continue this speculation, we reach the point where we could ask ourselves, couldn’t they also have bigger pets?

    Pets in Atlantis

Since I’ve been following Messi’s adventures (I_am_puma Youtube Channel) I’ve been constantly amazed by how gentle and cute and what a giant kitty is, in fact, Messi.

    Messi, the Gentle Russian Puma

Then I’ve got the idea that pumas originate in America, so I thought that maybe if Atlantis really existed and maybe if it was located somewhere between Europe and America, then maybe they didn’t have normal cats as pets, but pumas.

And the more “maybes” I add to this forever beautiful story of Atlantis, the more I like to think that pumas were actually Atlanteans best friends / pets.

This is a story and stories had kept our civilisations going for thousands and thousands years. They make us happier and the give us a sense of appurtenance and they also provide us with hope for a better future.

I really like to think that Atlanteans had pumas as pets and ate giant strawberries, but I certainly don’t support that we should have pumas as pets. Messi is the exception which confirms the rule.

  • Christmas Cookies… Yummy yummy

    Christmas Cookies… Yummy yummy

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful time!

As you may know, I love Christmas cookies, especially German “Lebkuchen” (Gingerbread 🙂 ). Last year I wrote an article about the Schulte Gingerbread, which tasted amazing.

This year I’m eating the Bahlsen Akora Gingerbread, that is covered in chocolate and has a jelly heart.

Although I am not a jelly fan, I loved these ones. They weren’t dried, their texture was very good.

Bahlsen has tons of gingerbread types, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the others. Maybe next year…

Apart from the gingerbread, I’m also eating these super-cute “Zimtsterne”. They are perfect in combination with tea.

When I first saw the package, I was reticent about it. I thought they are some hard biscuits covered in sugar. I was far from truth… In fact, they are wonderful, soft cookies, filled with hazelnuts and cinnamon. A cute looking delicacy!

That’s it my friends, these are this year’s Christmas cookies.

    Happy Holidays!

  • REVIEW: L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Lipidium Split Ends

REVIEW: L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Lipidium Split Ends

I gave a try to this duble serum from L’Oréal Professionnel. It is supposed to fight against split ends.

The package is very interesting. It has inside 2 bottles (15 ml each). One bottle contains a creamy texture, the other an oily stuff. When you press the pump, the products come out from both bottles in the same time. You have to mix them in your hand an apply on your ends.

I already had some split ends when I started to use it. After using the entire bottle, I didn’t find new split ends, only the old ones. I think it did a good job preventing split ends. It also made my hair easy to comb and somewhat it did have an anti-frizz effect, so I didn’t use other product on my hair except this one.

I finished the bottle in approx. one month. Pretty fast I would say. I would buy another bottle BUT, if I have to use 1 bottle per month, then what do I do with this crazy amount of plastic?!

I took the liberty to cut and rip the package and I was amazed by the amount of plastic it involved.

Imagine how much plastic it would create in 12 months… hmm…

I did actually like the product, but I would definitely love to buy it in a more ecologically package. A 360ml package would be a better choice (enough to last a year, less plastic). Let’s cross our fingers and hope Loreal will create a bigger package for this pretty good double serum.

  • Snegurochka

    Snegurochka

In Russia, Santa Claus has a beautiful wife. Her name is Snegurochka (also called The Snow Maiden). She is lovely. They always share the gifts together.

I love winter stories about winter women. I think one of the best stories is Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen”. I loved this story so much and I still find it amazing. I think Elsa from Frozen is inspired from the Snow Queen, but I don’t like (yeah, not a popular opinion) how she was drawn by Disney. I like the classy Snow Queen look, like this one:

Also, here something very funny regarding Snegurochka from a once very famous cartoon (Nu zaietz, Nu pagadi – Well, Just You Wait!). Have fun! 🙂

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HtcYXi3wPU

And, last but not least, I came across some funny boots that reminded me of Snegurochka.

    Cute, right?

    I can’t wait for Christmas! 🙂

Meanwhile, take a look at some of my old and funny Christmas posts:

This one, about cats murdering Christmas trees:

Or this one, about cats being wrapped as presents.

    Some cute Christmas nails:

    Or these funny cupcakes:

P.S. This year World of Tanks decided to introduce (to their Christmas event) Snow Maidens! Look how wonderful she is!

Funny: Mystery Man – Shawn Cabello, Camila Mendes’ boyfriend

In 2019 there was this Youtube / Radio hit: Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello – Señorita. The song is nice, has a 90s vibe (reminds me of Aventura – Obsession). The video is cute too.

The male singer is called Shawn Mendes and the woman is Camila Cabello.

There is also a hit show called Riverdale. One of the stars is Camila Mendes.

    source: https://www.instagram.com/camimendes/

So here are 3 celebrities: Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello and Camila Mendes.

There have been some jokes on the internet about Camila Mendes being the child of Shawn and Camila or that the singers got married, but the best joke is that there is somewhere a “Shawn Cabello”, who is Camila Mendes’ soul mate.

    Where are you, Shawn Cabello?

P.S. I might have found a photo with Shawn Cabello. I’m not sure he is our mystery man, but I don’t think Camila Mendes would mind if he were.

  • One of my favorite Store-Bought Pies: Refletes du France – Gâteau breton à la crème de pruneaux

One of my favorite Store-Bought Pies: Refletes du France – Gâteau breton à la crème de pruneaux

Refletes du France is in fact one of my favorite food brands. I could probably eat and enjoy 90% of their products. They have 438 products and each one of them is made from a traditional french recipe and they use high quality ingredients.

Unfortunately, in my country there is available only a limited range of products. But, among this teeny-tiny range, I discovered what became my favorite pie. Yup, favorite pie.

The product is kind of funny since it comes cut in half (probably they cut it so you could see the prune cream inside).

It is called Gâteau breton à la crème de pruneaux, meaning “Breton cake with prune cream”. I wouldn’t say it is a cake, it is rather a pie-cake. They used the classic breton cake recipe and added in the middle a delicious prune cream. The pastry has the classic Breton buttery taste which always goes amazing with unsweetened tea (I also like Breton butter biscuits with tea).

Apart from its really good taste, I like the healthy ingredients. Don’t get too excited, it is not a Bio-pie, it does have some chemicals, but you won’t see palm oil or some other spooky ingredients. In fact, here is the entire list:

    • Wheat flour,
    • prune cream 25% (prune pulp 20%, sugar, water, preservative: sorbic acid),
    • sugar,
    • concentrated butter 18% (ie 22% reconstituted butter),
    • fresh eggs,
    • fresh egg yolks,
    • baking powders: diphosphates and sodium carbonates (contains wheat),
    • salt.

With tea, this prune pie makes me go … nom nom nom.

Which reminds me about my all-time favorite: Whaou crepes.

  • REVIEW: Moroccanoil Hair Products

    REVIEW: Moroccanoil Hair Products

I’ve got this little cute box with 3 Moroccanoil Hair Products:

    Moroccanoil Review
    • Moroccanoil Treatment Original
    • Hydrating Styling Cream
    • Luminous Hairspray Strong

I’ve been using both the Moroccanoil Treatment Original and the Hydrating Styling Cream for a long time now. I think they are good products. They don’t do wonders, but they are pretty good. They don’t make my hair heavy and they smell nice, but not too powerful. I like them, although I do still have some split ends that maybe I shouldn’t have since I’ve been using so many hydrating and nourishing products for my hair.

I also have the Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream in the bigger format. Since my hair is not thick, a big bottle is enough for a whole year. I use the little recipient just when I travel. I’ve already wrote a full review about it: REVIEW: Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream.

The Moroccanoil Treatment Original is a mixture of oils that leaves hair nourished and easy to detangle. I also wrote a full review about it here and I also compared it with other serums I’ve used throughout time: REVIEW: Moroccanoil Treatment Original.

About the Luminous Hairspray Strong I don’t have a “strong” opinion. I feel that it makes my hair shinier but I didn’t use it with some heavy hairstyle that required strong hold, so I don’t really know if it is really strong or not.

I also use Moroccanoil Shampoo and Conditioner and, of course, I wrote about them: REVIEW: Moroccanoil Body Moisture & Shine Shampoo + Conditioner Fragrance Originale

Compared with tons of other professional hair products, the Moroccanoil products are kind of good and I would almost dare that they are the best. Even so, they don’t fully fulfill my hair needs. They could be better, but, for the moment, they are the best I have.

  • Messi, the Gentle Russian Puma

    Messi, the Gentle Russian Puma

The way he looks and his beautiful eyes

I have a new internet crush: it is fluffy, has big paws, big mesmerizing eyes, and a cute white kissable snout. Meet…. MESSI!

Beautiful Messi – all photos are taken from Messi’s Instagram

Messi is a rescued puma (cougar) who lives with his loving family in a flat in Penza city, Russia. He was born on 30.10.2015, so now (oct 2019) Messi is almost 4 years old.

There are two things that make this big cat very special: its extremely loving family and the way he looks at you, so gentle – right in your soul.

    Messi and Alexandr

The couple who takes care of Messi (Alexandr Dmitriev and Mariya Dmitriev – such sweet people) are very dedicated and you can clearly see, following their social media, that they ADORE Messi and Messi ADORES them too. These people have beautiful souls and so has their big cat (and also their other small cat).

    Funny Messi taking a bath

I am in love with Messi’s beautiful way of looking at his parents. He is so so gentle!

My message to all the haters

    Listen to Messi

There are people who demand that Messi should live in a sanctuary for wild animals, but I strongly doubt that he would have a better life. There he would be alone, torn from his family. Who would love him, who would brush him, who would pet him, who would listen to him (well, as you can see and hear from the Youtube videos, Messi is very talkative)?

I am extremely glad that the family will move to a house with yard, where Messi will have plenty of space, but I don’t think this was really a issue. Even if the cat lived in a flat, Alexandr and Mariya Dmitriev walk him at least twice a day and even play with frisbee.

The only thing I disagree with is an appearance in Russian TV. I think Messi was stressed and I think there are other ways to make people know about him besides taking him in a TV studio… Anyhow, it was only one time and I hope it will remain the only time.

Even though I completely agree with the way Alexandr and Mariya Dmitriev take care of Messi, I certainly don’t agree with the idea to own a wild animal. Messi is a very special case – he was ill (he even has smaller legs than normal cougars) and he was rescued AND his owners certainly don’t joke around. They even take Messi 4 times a week to a dog training facility.

Messi at the dog training school with Mariya

They really, but really devoted all their time and interests to Messi. There are not many people who can do this. So, please, don’t own wild animals!!! Messi is a wonderful exception and please understand this fact.

Making life better for millions of people

    Messi and his giraffe toy

Alexandr and Mariya post very often to their social media: on Youtube (I_am_puma) and Instagram (I_am_puma). You can also follow Messi’s Facebook Page. I literally wake up and check Instagram to see a cute photo or a lovely Instagram story with Messi. It really warms my heart!

On Youtube, in the comments of one of Messi’s videos, I once read that a woman showed her paralyzed mother these videos and when she saw them it was the only time she smiled.

I strongly believe that these clips and images bring joy to the people. It’s something really hard to find in this stressful world. Messi’s innocent eyes are a kind of promise to a better world

He already had this look when he was just a little cub…

    Messi as a cub

Also, the love that the couple shows towards Messi, their truthful way of behaving and living their lives represent a hope that nice people still exist.

In this world, with all the plastic and twerking and greasy foods, loathsome reality shows, people who are desperate for money and fame and all that cultural, political and social garbage, Messi is a ray of light. And I mean it.

So, if you have the possibility, give a gift to Messi!

There are two options: a donation website (for I_am_puma) or via Paypal (PayPal e-mail: JIEHNH@yandex.ru).

    Learn Russian with Messi

    Reading with Messi

Some videos have subtitles, but mostly don’t. I really hope in the future Alexandr and Mariya will add English subtitles because I would really like to learn a few words by listening them talk while watching Messi.

Although that I love Alexandr, Messi’s gentle owner, I also hope that Mariya, his beautiful wife, will appear in more videos.

I hope Messi will live a long happy life and Alexandr and Mariya will have a wonderful life as well! Thank you for sharing Messi with us!

P.S. Messi made me think that pumas come from Atlantis, so I wrote this post:

Ulrike Schneider Schmid – Rammstein Christoph Schneider’s Wife

I came across this photo of Christoph Schneider and his wife, Ulrike Schneider Schmid.

    Source: https://www.instagram.com/budti/

I’ve seen her in the past, but in this particular photo I think she looks great. She seems to be a mixture between Shirley Manson from Garbage in her youth and Eva Green. I love her make-up, both the eyes and the red lipstick, and I also like the color of the dress and her awesome nails (I also use a similar deep red color for my nails). And, of course, her attitude is pretty cool. Rammstein’s drummer, Christoph Schneider, also looks nice.

I understand that she is a psychologist. How cool is that? She studied in Vienna and in Berlin. Now she works in Berlin.

I don’t know how old she is, but she seems younger than Christoph. Anyhow, I like her style!

They have two kids and got married in 2014. Photos from their wedding are all over internet. Here is one of my favorite photos (taken by Steffen Böttcher):

    Source: https://www.boettcher.wedding/hochzeit-in-ulrichshusen/

Isn’t this funny? I love their shoes. He – very rockstar; She – nonconformist (wearing those flats at her wedding). Why would her feet suffer as it happens with most brides that wear the “traditional” uncomfortable shoes?

Also, here is another photo from their wedding. I like it because she has the same dark red nails.

She is kind of private about her life. If you’re lucky enough, she will let you follow her instagram account (soulischmid) 🙂

  • REVIEW: OPI Peru Collection Nail Polish, Mini Pack – Mini Infinite Shine 4-Pack

REVIEW: OPI Peru Collection Nail Polish, Mini Pack – Mini Infinite Shine 4-Pack

    OPI Infinite Shine Review

OPI Infinite Shine Peru Collection Review

I bought this OPI Peru Collection, Mini Pack Infinite Shine out of curiosity. I did’t need it but I was thinking to repurchase the original OPI Top Coat (I wrote about it on my OPI Top Coat Review). The shop didn’t have the top coat and I really wanted to try again some OPI products, so I got this mini package.

With the original top coat, the polish lasted a long time and I was curious to see that if with the Infinite Shine OPI primer, polish and top coat (even if it is not the one I wanted) nails will also last for a long time.

    What I got

OPI Infinite Shine Primer, Nail Polish, Top Coat

I purchased this little cute package. It includes:

    • 2 Colors: OPI Infinite Shine (Peru Collection: Alpaca My Bags and Yes My Condor Can-Do! – funny names)
    • OPI Mini Infinite Shine Primer
    • OPI Mini Infinite Shine Gloss

You’re supposed to use the primer as a base coat, then 2 coats of color and finish with the top coat.

The polishes are supposed to be “long wear” and OPI promises “Up to 11 days of gel-like wear and shine. Easy application and removal“.

My thought about the OPI Infinite Shine products

The primer and the top coat are kind of sticky. They were a little bit hard to apply. Now, the nail polishes were different. Alpaca My Bags was easy to apply, but Yes My Condor Can-Do! was sticky.

Alpaca My Bags OPI nail polish

Infinite Shine – Alpaca My Bags OPI nail polish

This bluish color was easy to apply. First chipped nail appeared after 4 days. The others lasted perfectly about 6 days.

Yes My Condor Can-Do! OPI nail polish

Infinite Shine – Yes My Condor Can-Do! OPI nail polish

In the instructions it is written that you must apply the nail polish in 2 THIN coats, but this is an impossible task since the dark red polish is so sticky and heavy. It was difficult to apply, but in the end the result was pretty good. It did take a little bit longer to dry, but it lasted a lot without any chipped nails.

Final impression on OPI Infinite Shine

Since the top coat is not very fluid, it took a longer time to dry. I’ve experienced in the past similar problems with the OPI Top Coat. Anyhow, it did dry eventually and it didn’t leave “sheet marks”.

It doesn’t seem to be shinier than other ordinary nail polishes, although the products are all from the “infinite shine” series.

They lasted a lot compared with other products, but I feel that the classic top coat from OPI lasts even longer, even if it may take a little more time to completely dry.

REVIEW UPDATE – 8 days without chips!

I tried again “Yes My Condor Can-Do!” OPI super shine nail polish, together with the primer and the topcoat. This second time, the nails lasted without any chips for 8 days, considering that in each day I did some cooking and light housework.

You can see how the nail polish cracked under the top coat in the usual spots it would normally chip, but the top coat held it together and it didn’t fall off. These cracks appeared progressively, and they started to appear about 4-5 days after I did my nails. I don’t know why the first time I did my nails with this nail polish it lasted a little less. Maybe I didn’t apply it correctly. Anyhow, I am truly amazed by the long wear this OPI kit provides. I think all in all these are some really good products.
