  • Plastic and Stainless Steel Straw Hysteria

Plastic and Stainless Steel Straw Hysteria

This article is about straw usage on a daily basis and states that in most cases straw usage is unnecessary. I am not writing  about out of ordinary activities that actually might require straws.

    The stainless steel straw craze

Slowly, all youtube gurus have started to use stainless steel straws. I’m just watching their videos amazed by the fact that:

    1. They need to drink with a straw.
    2. They drink all kind of stuff with a straw (lemonade, coffee, smoothies, milkshakes etc.)
    3. They don’t punch their teeth with the inox thingy.

I understand that this craze comes from the fact that people use too much plastic. But… but… but… why the need to drink everything with a straw?! Also, there may be times in life when plastic straws could actually come in handy. So why adopt extreme mesures when we could educate ourselves?

    Ways to reduce straw usage

I don’t use plastic straws not because there is a modern craze about it, but because I just simply drink what I need to drink without further complications.

    1. No junk food

Since I don’t use to eat junk food, I don’t usually drink some unhealthy juice from a big cup with a … plastic straw.

So, before ordering stainless steel straws, how about stop eating junk food and stop drinking tons of sugary water? Also, what about those cups? Aren’t those garbage as well? How about making less waste?

    2. Brew your own coffee

Since Starbucks became such a big thing, all girls started to create tons of waste because of those plastic straws and that unmistakeable Starbucks coffee cup. First of all, it is unhealthy to drink such stuff on a daily basis and secondly, it is WASTE. Buying a stainless steel straw won’t make up for all the waste you’ve been creating. And no, it is not a “small step”. It is just an extreme measure for a problem that most of these people don’t actually want to solve.

    3. Stop adding unnecessary straws

Who in the world decided 2 straws look better?! Once again, such an unnecessary waste…

    4. Just drink from the glass like a normal person

Look, a woman drinks something without a straw, from a container that actually isn’t garbage and could be used for 100 years! Incredible, right?

People, your life doesn’t need straws on a daily basis. Just… stop sucking. 🙂

  • My Daily Routine Seen Through Some Giant Cat Paintings

My Daily Routine Seen Through Some Giant Cat Paintings

I’ve stumbled upon some really cute paintings that depict giant cats with their human friend. The artist’s pseudonym is Monokubo.

I realised that these 3 paintings reflect my main 3 moments in a day:

    1. Writing and studying

So yeah, this is basically me throughout most of the day. Cats are kind of bored and sleepy, but they understand my need of silence and concentration.

    2. Getting stuff done

This is also me doing stuff. I love the attitude of this giant fluffy cat. He is so sure about himself.

    3. Bed time

OK, I wrote and I worked and now… I’m just sleepy. I will sleep on this giant fluffy bed.

    Till next time! 🙂

P.S. I have no idea what those blue round birds are… LOL

  • REVIEW: Payot expert points noirs

    REVIEW: Payot expert points noirs

I tried for a month the Payot expert points noirs cream and this is my review.

I was looking for a cream that I could apply on my blackheads after I cleaned my face with a micellar water. Since I have mixed skin, it was very important for me that the cream would not awfully dry my skin.

Review: What I expected from Payot expert points noirs:

    1. Make the black color of the blackheads disappear.
    2. To tighten the pores so it would look as if I have craters on my skin.
    3. To prevent further appearance of blackheads.
    4. To hydrate my skin.

Review: What I liked about the Payot expert points noirs

What the Payot expert points noirs actually did was that it did generally conform to my expectations.

    • It cleared my face, cleared clogged pores and there were no more “black” heads.
    • It hydrated my skin.

I guess that these two things are actually pretty good. I tried before other creams and serums for blackheads and apart from the fact that they dried my skin, they did almost nothing for the blackheads… So the Payot serum turns to be a pretty good investment.

I also like the fact that it has an exquisite smell which makes it feel kind of posh. I realized that a lot of french creams have a smillar smell, but this one is the most nice one.

The Payot’s ingredients seem to be ok. Good enough for me. Here they are:

Review: What I didn’t like about the Payot expert points noirs

Well, unfortunately I don’t feel that it tighten the pores and also it doesn’t seem to prevent future blackheads. I think it works as long as you keep applying it (I use it only one time per day, before bed). But who knows, maybe in time it will help me with these two features also.

Anyhow, I DO recommend this product to anyone who has a small or mild problem with blackheads and wants to have an *almost* perfect skin.

  • Uma Thurman’s eyes in Pulp Fiction famous scene

Uma Thurman’s eyes in Pulp Fiction famous scene

There is this scene in Pulp Fiction:

It always reminded me of something. Of a painting maybe, a painting of Jesus on cross maybe. I don’t know if Tarantino thought about a specific work of art when he shot this frame, but it certainly is a great great picture. An amazing picture I would say! Plus Uma Thurman’s blue eyes are mesmerising!

Anyhow, the only work of art prior to Pulp Fiction, with the same exact theme, that I can think of is this photo created by Man Ray.

I’m pretty sure there is also a painting of Jesus but I can’t really remember it. Maybe you know it!

  • Mega super duper cute (and very talented) cat videos

Today I came across an original thing on the internet and I am very excited about it. An artist that works in video editing field uses his cat to “improve” some famous movies and tv series. Besides the fact that the final result is amazing, I also enjoyed watching the “behind the scenes” videos. The cat absolutely loves it and it is a good example against those who think that cats are hard to be trained and are stubborn.

So, here is an example of “cat in the video”. The movie is John Wick.

The cat’s name is Owl. The owner’s name is Thibault (Tibo) Charroppin. I think these videos show that he is really talented and also that he is a very patient and creative person.

Here is the behind the scene video. Amazing!

If you would like to support them, they have a Patreon account.

Also, you can follow them on Youtube or Instagram. They continue to create these super cute videos.

  • REVIEW: Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream

    REVIEW: Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream

I received this Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream as a gift. Because I have long, fine hair, prone to split ends, I use it in combination with this Moroccanoil treatment. I mix both products in my hand and I apply to my lengths (hair wet), then I blow dry or leave it to dry by itself.

The styling cream is supposed to hydrate the hair and also have an frizz-ease effect. It hasn’t got any “hold” power. Although it does hydrate and does have an anti-frizz effect, it doesn’t do wonders. BUT I never met a product that did wonders to my hair and I can truly say this is the best product I tried so far.

As I already said, I don’t use it by itself because I feel that it doesn’t help me much with the split ends. For the split ends, I use the treatment I mentioned above.

So, what I DO like about the Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream is:

    • hydrating (although not enough to prevent by itself my split ends)
    • anti-frizz effect
    • makes hair easy to detangle
    • smells amazing
    • in 6 months I used half a bottle (so about 25 ml per month, meaning that a little goes a long way)

What I don’t like is that the hydrating effect and the anti-frizz one aren’t really very powerful. But, again, no other product that I tried in the past was.

So, all in all, I think I’m going to use the Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream for a long time.

I also bought a travel size because since my hair doesn’t really look good if I don’t apply the product and the 300 ml bottle was too big to take it with me when I travel.

  • What does “pulp” in Pulp Fiction mean?

What does “pulp” in Pulp Fiction mean?

Pulp Fiction is one of my all time favorite movies. I’ve seen it many many times and each time I enjoyed it.

It’s a brilliant movie, very catchy and interesting to watch, very original and unlike any other movie. It’s fresh, cool, glam, romantic, it has guns, beautiful girls, cool guys, interesting human characters…

So, have you ever wondered what does “pulp” in Pulp Fiction mean?

Well, “pulp” generally refers to the pulp of a fruit (the creamy sweet stuff inside the peel). But Pulp Fiction refers to something else. From 1896 to the 1950s there were these cheap comics names “Pulp Magazines“.

The magazines were printed on wood pulp paper. Wood pulp was cheaper than the glossy paper other magazines were printed on. I guess that Quentin Tarantino was a fan of these pulp magazines and was inspired by them to create his masterpiece. So the name “Pulp” in “Pulp Fiction” is a tribute to the Pulp Magazines.

There is even a scene where Travolta reads a Pulp Magazine.

Now you will also understand the meaning of Pulp Fiction’s movie poster. It is made to look like a Pulp Magazine cover and Uma Thurman seems to be reading these magazines.

I always thought it was a random choice of design, but I guess I was wrong. Anyhow, nothing is random in the greatest works of art.

  • Cute 3000 Years Old Women’s Sandals from Ancient Egipt + Ancient Greek Boots bonus

Cute 3000 Years Old Women’s Sandals from Ancient Egipt + Ancient Greek Boots bonus

I always like to see in museums ancient pieces of clothing and footwear. I somehow feel they bring us closer to the ancient people, perhaps in a more intimate fashion than observing their ruins and tools. I also like to see these pieces because many times they are surprisingly similar to today’s fashion. Once again, this makes me feel closer to ancient people, considering that our mentality is not so different from theirs.

For instance, I found these ancient Egyptian sandals in Neues Musem in Berlin.

Even though we live in the Age of Internet, some things in which people aren’t very interested, are still scarce online. This is the situation with ancient pieces of clothing and footwear. While a simple Google search won’t get you many results, in almost any museum with ancient stuff you will find some interesting pieces.

Although this is true in most cases, I did find something VERY interesting on the internet. I came across these 3000 y.o. Ancient Greek terracotta boots (for burial process – they didn’t actually walk in terracotta 🙂 ) that look very modern!

In fact, I do own a pair of similar boots and similar sandals and I find it absolutely amazing that we are 5000 years apart, yet we dress the same.

  • My favorite dog breeds

    My favorite dog breeds

I once read a joke on the internet:

“If a labrador was given three wishes it would be eternal supply of food, eternal stomach, and more food”.

    LOL 😀

There is also this clip with a dog competition and a Golden Retriever…

Well, this is why Labradors and Golden Retrievers are definitely not my favorite dog breeds. 🙁

Some people like these naughty and food obsessed dogs, but I definitely not like them. It is a mystery how these dogs got to be guide dogs for blind people (in movies at least, because in real life I saw that blind people use German Shepherds).

The 2 breeds I dislike most are the Retrievers because of their low intellect and I also dislike the French Bulldog because it has so many health problems and I can’t really believe the fact that people are still allowed to breed these poor dogs that will lead a life of pain.

Anyhow, The German Shepherd is my favorite dog breed. It is a very beautiful dog, very smart, obedient, healthy, has pretty good life span. I really like them!

Another dog breed that I like a lot is King Charles Spaniel. These are really cute dogs, but they are not as intelligent as the German Shepherd. They are indeed very beautiful and one day I would like to have such amazing companions.

I also absolutely love Border Collie. If you take your time to search Youtube you will see how amazing they are herding sheep (they will also herd your toddlers… LOL). They are truly wonderful dogs. Some say that the average dog has the intelligence of a 2 years old human, but the Border Collie is as intelligent as a 4 years old human being.

Yeap, these 3 are my favorite dog breeds:  King Charles Spaniel, German Shepherd and Border Collie 😀

    Which ones are yours?

  • REVIEW: Korres Lip Gloss (Cherry Light Pink no. 11)

REVIEW: Korres Lip Gloss (Cherry Light Pink no. 11)

I got the Korres Lip Gloss because I wanted a hydrating, tinted moisturizer and glossy “balm” for my lips.

I remember I payed less than 10 Euros, but on their website I found it at the 15.50€ price. Maybe I just bought it on sale. Anyhow, I think that even 10€ is a little bit too pricey for what this lip gloss has to offer.

The Korres Lip Gloss did the job I bought it for. It really was hydrating and glossy, but… it didn’t last on the lips. In one hour it was completely gone. Then again, it is a lip gloss, maybe it’s not unusual for a lip gloss to last only one hour.

I got the Cherry Light Pink no. 11. The color was nice, although it was a little bit too light for me.

What I liked about this lip gloss was that:

    • it was moisturizing
    • it was kind of natural looking
    • it was glossy
    • the package is small and cute

    What I didn’t like:

    • it didn’t last long on the lips
    • it was kind of sticky
    • and the worst part is that the cap broke down and every time I wanted to unscrew the cap, I would be left with the cover in my hand, while the applicator would still be screwed to the bottle. So when this happened, I didn’t bother to use it anymore and just threw it into garbage.

This is how it looks now and unfortunately it can’t be opened by hand. It is almost stitched and the small cap doesn’t have enough grip to open it.

Even though I don’t regret buying it, I would not buy it again.
