Met Gala: Camp: Notes on Fashion (2019) – A review

Met Gala is a fund raising event that started in 1948. Celebrities meet at a themed party and have fun. The number of participants is about 700 people and a ticket costs 30.000$.

The special thing about this event is that it is arty. It is held in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each year there is a different “theme” and the participants must dress accordingly.

    This year’s theme was this:

    Camp: Notes on Fashion (2019)

Camp… oh, sweet camp. Do you remember Pink Flamingos, the movie? This is the epitome of camp.

Camp is defined as “an aesthetic style and sensibility that regards something as appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value”. Camp is a very interesting part of aesthetics. It is not kitsch though. Kitsch wants you to make believe that it gives you something beautiful and of good quality, while camp really tells it in your face that… well, “eat sh*t”.

I really thought this year’s theme was funny, interesting and very open. You could literally wear anything, as long as it is bad taste that wants to be bad taste and feels good in being bad taste.

The problem with modern celebrities is that most of the time they seem to wear something of bad taste, but they don’t actually intend to be bad taste, in fact, quite the opposite. In Pink Flamingos, Divine, the main character, feels good about herself. She is proud about who she is. You are camp only if you’re really proud because of your eccentricity and, ultimately, bad taste.

Today, my Instagram feed got assaulted by photos from the Met Gala 2019. Girls were wearing various dresses and I truly couldn’t find a connection between them.

For instance, Madelaine Petsch posted this photo with her dress for the camp theme:

    Source: https://www.instagram.com/madelame/?hl=en

If the theme was “tinkerbell”, then the dress would have been apropiate. But for camp? Gosh.

Let’s take a look at another Riverdale actress: Lili Reinhart.

    Source: https://www.instagram.com/lilireinhart/?hl=en

She even wrote “Went ~camping~ last night”. Funny-ish, but… Hm.

Well, both Lily and Madelaine are very young and they have plenty of time to figure things out. On the other hand, there were these old-school celebrities… :

Kim Kardashian West posted 2 dresses. She wore one of them at the afterparty. Here they are:

Even though her dresses aren’t really bad taste and in fact the idea behind them is amazing – as if she is standing in rain and there are droplets of water pouring down on her –  I think she nailed (almost) it.

There was a big fuzz about Lady Gaga’s dress (wait, is she still a thing?). She made an “entrance” that lasted 16 long and lame minutes.

Sorry, Lady Gaga, but this is not camp, it is pure lameness. We can see that you are uncomfortable in your skin. Once again, camp is supposed to feel confortable and proud, not hysterical and attention seeker.

Dua Lipa is one of the few who seemed to enjoy her (almost camp) outfit:

Gwen Stefani was one of the few who looked camp.

    https://www.instagram.com/gwenstefani/

Some people put on some feathers, one actually cited something about camp and feathers… People, stop copying each other, get your own ideas!

There was zero originality at this event. It had so much potential… I really hoped I would see some fashion stylized camp, but instead there were only lame attempts for attention and lots of kitsch. Meh.

  • REVIEW: Collistar Shampoo Supernourishing

What is this shampoo supposed to do?

They say: “Much more than just a shampoo, this product is an actual treatment which deeply nourishes the hair, leaving it soft and shiny.” The company also says that the Collistar Supernourishing Shampoo “nourishes, strengthens and protects, leaving hair soft, shiny and manageable”.

OMG I am so annoyed and sick and tired from this deceptive lies in the description of a product. Why can’t companies just say what the thing really does? Plain as that?! Who the f. cares if you trick a few people to buy your sh**? No one is going to buy it again! Never!

    What it really does

At first, it pretty much makes your hair look like an ugly broom. It makes the hair stiff and frizzy.

Also, the most annoying part is that it makes my scalp itchy and gives me dandruff.

After washing my hair with the Collistar Supernourishing Shampoo, my hair certainly doesn’t look nice. I am extremely disappointed with this product considering the publicity they make. If only they would invest that publicity money into a better product…

    ALTHOUGH….

The interesting fact about this shampoo is that after I started washing my hair with a better shampoo and from time to time I also used Collistar, my hair did look good. Now, that I finished the bottle, I think it is not as bad as I said it was in the beginning. It just needs to be interchanged with a better shampoo.

Does it at least prevent split ends?

I don’t really know what to say. I don’t have many split ends, but I do my best to prevent them, by using a lot of serums and hydrating creams.

Does it get better if you apply hair balm?

    Yes, it definitely does.

At first I was really upset with this shampoo, then it got better.

I don’t think I will repurchase it, and I somehow feel that I’ve been unfair with it. Maybe it is just my scalp and hair that don’t really get along with this shampoo. Maybe it will be good for you. Although, if I use it interchanged with Morrocanoil shampoo and if I apply balm, my hair looks really nice. I really have mixed feelings about it…

  • REVIEW: J’adore Dior Long Lasting or Not?

REVIEW: J’adore Dior Long Lasting or Not?

I never really understood the purpose of not-so-long lasting perfumes. Cheap perfumes last only one-two hours. What could I do with this time? If I go somewhere it takes me at least 30 minutes to reach the destination… well, anyhow, bottom line: I really do like long lasting perfumes.

Before the J’adore perfume, I had a bottle of Alien from Thierry Mugler. Every time I wore that perfume, people told me how nice I smelled…. like 12 hours later. LOL. It really was long lasting. Unfortunately, I didn’t particularly like the smell (although it is a very beautiful smell, I felt it somehow didn’t suit me 100%). Also, sometimes I felt that my head hurt because of the strongnes of the Thierry Mugler perfume. So I decided to go to Sephora and buy a new perfume, a more delicate one: the J’adore Dior.

Well, unfortunately, no one, ABSOLUTELY no one, has ever felt / smelled this perfume on me. :/

Its smell is so dim that… well, no one gets it.

Also, its smell fades so quickly, that even I don’t feel it anymore.

So, NO, the J’adore Dior is definitely NOT a Long Lasting perfume.

I still think it is a great smelling perfume, but if you really are looking for a long-lasting perfume, be sure that the J’adore Dior is not what you’re looking for.

  • Unethical Cat Breeds

    Unethical Cat Breeds

Unfortunately, there are several cat breeds that are based on some physical problems that make the cat’s life hard. These cats may look cute, but their life is not a normal one and your pleasure shouldn’t be based on someone else’s misfortune. Some of these infamous cat breeds are:

    The Munchkin cat

This is a breed of cat characterized by its very short legs, which are caused by a genetic mutation. This cat can’t even jump on the sofa. Maybe you will laugh at hear and think you have a funny cat, but this is very cruel. Also, if this cat runs away, it has zero chance of survival on the street or in the wilderness.

    Scottish Fold

The Scottish Fold cat breed is characterized by folded ears that cause ear problems… Without the human help to clean its ears, this cat would make an instant ear infection.

    Exotic Shorthair

This cat has flat face… needless to say what problems causes this anomaly. It can’t even eat right.

The list continues and it makes me very sad to see that some people buy these breeds and encourage these health problems. I strongly believe it is unethical to breed animals with a genetic mutation that is known to cause painful deformities and disease and that would make cat’s life in wilderness impossible. If you want to read more about this unethical breeds problem, you can start with this website.

Unfortunately, we have a sinister tradition in making fun of the impaired. For instance, as a society, we used to like (and some of us maybe still do) freak shows. I don’t think there is anything funny in suffering and this “tradition” should stop, especially when it is not an “accidental” occurrence, but it is made in laboratories especially for so-called fun.

Stop breeding health problems in cats, dogs or whatever other living being!

  • Kyle Willis – An interesting artist

Kyle Willis – An interesting artist

Kyle Willis is an artist based in Florida. He creates some interesting drawings and collage artworks.

I know about him because I saw on the internet (9gag maybe) these 2 cool collage artworks (Darth Vader and Darth Maul – dunno who the last one is, but seems cool :D):

These collages were made by sticking tiny little pieces cut up pages of comic books. I think they are really impressive because:

    • Even though a lot of this type of art is somehow kitschy, these 2 are definitely not. They are inspired and the work is carefully done and the colors blend really well in the mosaic and also they are eye-catching.
    • It is fresh. I mean, come on people. We live in the 21 Century. So many artists have been trying to be “new” and “avant-garde” in the past 100 years that now I feel that almost everything is dried up. I like to see this kind of art: fresh, true, sincere. It really shows that it comes from within. It’s not “fake”.

I also like his sense of humor.

He bought this painting from the flea market and added some funny stuff.

He creates a variety of visual art. For instance, there is this cool watercolor named “Pickle Rick meets LL COOL J”. Although I am not a Rick and Morty fan, I do appreciate the cool background of the picture. I love the sky and the trees.

Also, here is a photo from one of his customers. I really like how he hanged the collages on the wall. The living room seems pretty nice.

If you’d like to see more of his work, check out Kyle Willis’s website.

Here is his other social media accounts:

  • REVIEW: Balea Anti-Spliss Serum Repair + Pflege

REVIEW: Balea Anti-Spliss Serum Repair + Pflege

It’s been so many years since I’ve been using this serum.

It is definitely one of the best hair products I’ve ever had and it is really cheap if you think about it: only 3 Euros.

They say it is a professional serum, but it costs as much as any other drug store hair product.

So, this is the one and only Balea Anti-Spliss Serum Repair + Pflege (anti split ends serum):

I apply this product right after washing my hair, when the hair is still wet. It really does prevent split ends, but it won’t stick together the old split ends you already have (and I don’t believe in products that say they do this).

With this product I have almost zero split ends and I don’t have to go cut my hair so often, so longer hair for me 🙂 .

It also helps detangle hair and fights against frizz, but unfortunatelly its power is still weak against my rebel hair.

Anyhow, I highly recommend this product for anyone who hates split ends.

  • “Raining Cats and Dogs” Umbrella as Seen on Amanda Seyfried

“Raining Cats and Dogs” Umbrella as Seen on Amanda Seyfried

I need this. Because of reasons.

    https://www.amazon.com/GALLERIA-ENTERPRISES-INC-33028-Umbrella/dp/B019YORF6Y

If English is not your mother tongue, then you’ve probably learned in early school years the phrase “raining cats and dogs”.

I loved this phrase. It intrigued me. It was funny and crazy. Pure nonsense.

I’ve just watched this youtube video with Amanda Seyfried and her dog and at a point in this video she uses this umbrella. Really cool. 😀

Now I want it too. It’s too funny!

I Googled this umbrella print and I found several ideas. Like this one:

    http://stephensplace.org/5-easy-diy-no-sew-halloween-costumes/

This one is actually a DIY Halloween ideea. I find it very cute. It would be a little bit complicated to actually wear something like this in rain because the plush cats and dogs would soak. And it would be difficult to carry it around. But if you are a really funny person who would go to extreme… maybe you could use for real this kind of umbrella… I know I would LOL

  • REVIEW: John Frieda Frizz Ease Shampoo

REVIEW: John Frieda Frizz Ease Shampoo

So my hair tends to be very frizzy and I tried many shampoos and hair balms and styling products that are supposed to make my hair silky and nice, but I had zero success with all of them…

I read on the internet good things about the John Frieda Frizz Ease Shampoo. They have a whole line dedicated to frizzy hair and I thought I might give it a try. Well, unfortunately, I was really disappointed.

When I took this photo, the bottle was almost empty. Although it didn’t do anything bad to my hair, it didn’t do anything for my frizz problem also. It felt and looked just as any other regular, cheaper, shampoo.

Also I had a problem with the cap. It was very hard to open… I never had a similar problem with other products…

    I don’t recommend it.

  • A Healthy Breakfast – Oatmeal, Milk and More

A Healthy Breakfast – Oatmeal, Milk and More

    My breakfast

Some time ago I discovered the best breakfast I’ve ever had. It basically consists of the following ingredients:

    • oats
    • low-fat milk
    • cinnamon
    • 1/2 banana or some other fruits
    • chia or other type of seeds (sometimes)

Of course I’ve eaten oats before (and other type of cereals too), but this particular recipe is the best for me.

    The recipe:

    • I take 1/3 cup of oats, I add milk until the cup is almost full and I let the oats soak through the night (in the fridge).
    • In the morning, I heat a little bit the cup (just to get it to room temperature), I add 1/2 banana (sliced) or other fruits and some cinnamon. Sometimes I also add chia seeds, but when I do this, I must let the chia seeds soak for at least 10 minutes.

The recipe resembles a little bit with classic porridge, but I don’t have time to boil the milk and cook the oats in it. Porridge is probably good too, but takes way too much time. I just mix the oats with the milk (it takes me literally 2 minutes) and go to bed. No time for porridge in the morning either.

    Benefits of my oatmeal breakfast

    • Almost ready-made in morning, easy to eat. (If you don’t feel like preparing food, you can just grab the cup with the oatmeal, take a spoon and just eat it)
    • Healthy, good digestion
    • It’s a good start if you want to be skinny. It keeps you full and doesn’t make you fat.
    • Accessibility: you can get the ingredients from any store and also they are rather cheap.
    • You could also eat a BIO version or even a vegan one with almond milk instead of classic milk.
    • You could mix it with tons of other ingredients (seeds, fruits, even chocolate).
    • Doesn’t make you feel dizzy or sleepy or whatever after eating it. A lot of people don’t feel good after eating breakfast. Well, you will probably feel good after this breakfast (but remember to use a low-fat milk).

    Common questions

    1. Will it taste funny if it sits 10 hours (overnight) in the fridge? – Nope.
    2. Do I really need to let it overnight? – Yes. The oats are tastier if soaked and a lot healthier.
    3. What will I eat when I get bored with it? – You can’t really get bored with it because you can always add new ingredients.
    4. Will I get skinny if I eat oatmeal? – A little bit, yes.

P.S. Although my oatmeal cup isn’t very fancy (the one in the first photo), some girls really like to decorate and mix their oatmeal. I personally don’t like to play with food, but… if you really don’t have anything better to do in the morning, you could decorate your oatmeal 🙂 . Whatever you do, stay healthy!
