A very good tea: Jardin Our Tea

I bought something from Joom and the seller, located in South Korea, sent me a gift composed by some facemasks and teas. Both of them were amazingly good!

The tea is Jardin Our Tea, a Korean tea. Unfortunately, I didn’t find a way to buy it, but maybe in the future there will be a way.

  • Favorite November Foods

    Favorite November Foods

This November I got some favorite foods that I particularly like eating. I don’t know why my body likes them so much, but here they are:

It is not everything that I eat in a day, but it is what I like most this autumn. I also love beef stew, but I love it all year round, so I didn’t include it here.

So, what do I like  eating this November?

    1. Schär gluten free bread with seeds. I don’t always eat gluten-free, but this bread feels so good to my gut.

    2. Roquefort cheese made from raw (unpasteurised) milk. I like the fact that it is made from raw sheep milk. It tastes better with a sip of red wine 🙂

    3. Labeyrie Terrine de Canard with foie gras. I put this on buttered bread and eat it with a little bit of cucumber and it tastes like heaven. It is made from duck meat and duck and goose liver and it is amazing.

    4. Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese . This cheese is very tasty and it is also made from raw milk, but unlike Roquefort, it is made from raw cow milk. I also like it because it doesn’t contain lab-made bacteria. Its bacteria comes solely from calf bowel.

    5. Eggs. I eat eggs all year round, but in autumn I feel a special need to eat them.

    6. Cucumbers. They are precursors of arginine, they are low in sugar and they are tasty (at least in combination with the Terrine).

    7. Mozart pralines and Pukka tea. I find it very relaxing to make a cup of tea (Pukka this autumn) and to drink it while eating a Mozart praline. Very cozy.

  • REVIEW: Wedderspoon Raw Premium Manuka Honey, KFactor 16

REVIEW: Wedderspoon Raw Premium Manuka Honey, KFactor 16

Types of Manuka Honey and why I chose Wedderspoon

The majority of Manuka Honeys have an MGO factor, the higher, the better.

I heard the wonders of Manuka Honey and I wanted to try it too. It just happened that the store had a Wedderspoon sale and I bought the one you can see in the photos. I was aware that Wedderspoon isn’t MGO certified and have their own scale, “Kfactor”, but it didn’t bother me. I like diversity in products.

Manuka Honey – Does it really work?

Manuka honey is known for its antibiotic-like effect, but without the downsides of real antibiotics. It is said that Manuka kills pathogens, but saves good bacteria, like Lactobacilli.

For me, it really worked. Although it didn’t do wonders and wasn’t as good as a real antibiotic, it was definitely better than any other natural “antibiotic” that I ever tried.

Next time I am thinking of trying another Manuka Honey, one that is MGO certified and I will definitely try a high MGO. I will come back and write about it.

    How does Manuka honey taste?

At first I was a little bit taken by surprise by its taste. It may seem a bit strange at first, but then it is really delicious.

As time passes, it becomes more and more yummy. Now all I can say is that Manuka and Acacia honeys are my favorite!

Did I every try another Manuka honey?

Yes, I tried one which I bought from Lidl. It came, of course, from New Zealand but it didn’t taste nowhere near as good as Wedderspoon and it didn’t have any effect at all.

I also tried Manuka Health – MGO 100+. It tasted amazing, just like (or even better) Wedderspoon, but since the MGO was low (only 100), it didn’t have any antibiotic-like effect. I am planning in the future to buy a Manuka Health with a higher MGO (maybe 500+) and see what happenes.

  • How to make the healthiest mulled red wine

How to make the healthiest mulled red wine

    Traditional mulled red wine

Red wine is known for its healthy properties, especially for gut, heart and blood pressure health.

The classic recipe is that you almost boil the wine, mix it with cinnamon and oranges and apples and whatever other tasty stuff. The internet is full of mulled (boiled) red wine recipes, each tastier than the others. But which one of them is the healthiest? Well, none of them.

The best way to preserve ALL the healthy properties of the red wine is NOT to make it hotter than 60°C (140°F). This is the main problem with the mulled red wine. People heat it really strong, some even boil it – thus destroying the healthy properties of the red wine.

Also, sugar is very bad for healthy, so we will replace sugar with honey, but always keep in mind that high temperatures destroy the honey.

The recipe for the healthiest mulled red wine

For 1 cup of final product you will have to go through the following steps:

    Step 1

Measure 1/2 cup of water, add in this water a few cloves (3 or 4) and half teaspoon of cinnamon (I actually prefer the powder because you get to eat it, which is healthier than just to taste a little bit from a stick) and BOIL this mixture.

Pay attention to the recipient in which you boil the mixture. The second it stars to boil, it swells up and you have to switch off the flame, otherwise you will make a mess.

    Step 2

Add in this mixture 1/2 cup of room temperature red wine, then mix it a little bit. The whole mixture will now have a temperature around 50°C (122°F).

    Step 3

    Add a teaspoon of honey.

Since our final mixture has only 50°C (122°F) temperature, it is safe now to mix it with honey.

Now you can drink it. It tastes really good and is good for your health.

Why is this better than the classic mulled red wine?

    • Since we haven’t boiled the wine, it now has its all properties intact.
    • We replaced sugar with honey and we also didn’t destroy it with heat.
    • The infused cloves with cinnamon are extremely healthy, they are particularly good to boost your immune system.

Is it safe to drink it daily?

Yes, it is. Especially since it is not an extremely alcoholic beverage.

You can also add at the final step other ingredients, such as oranges or anise or whatever you like.

Winter tastes much better with mulled red wine, even better when it is extremely healthy.

  • Aloe Vera – A good plant to have at your house

Aloe Vera – A good plant to have at your house

    Easy to take care of

I love having an Aloe Vera plant at home. It is very easy to take care of, doesn’t require a lot of care. Just put it in an ordinary place with some sun and water it once a week. It is not a demanding plant, but it has tons of benefits.

    For cooking-related burned skin

If you cook regularly, you might have burned your skin with steam. I know I did… I just cut an aloe vera leaf and with the gel inside it I massage the burned area of my skin. The burned are will heal very-very quick and the pain will diminish considerably.

    For sun damaged skin

Did you stay in sunlight too much? Is your skin red, did it get burned and know you feel that awkward pain?

Once again, apply the gel that’s inside the Aloe Vera leaf and the skin will heal itself more quickly.

    For a healthy liver

The Aloe Vera plant has also a detoxifying effect, especially for the liver.

You have to blend 1.6 meters (63 inches) of Aloe Vera leaves (not only the gel, but the whole leaf) and then mix this blend with 400 g (14 ounces) of honey. Eat of spoon of this mixture each morning and will help you detoxify.

Does it suffer when you pick off her leaves?

    I hope not.

The Aloe Vera is a prolific plant, it will have plenty of leaves so probably it won’t be such a problem if you take a leaf once in a while.

  • REVIEW: Weider Nut Protein Choco Vegan Crunchy

REVIEW: Weider Nut Protein Choco Vegan Crunchy

    Vegan or simple?

When buying a few Weider products for my family, I decided to try the Weider Nut Protein Choco Vegan Crunchy. I oscillated between the vegan nut choco and the simple one (NUT PROTEIN CHOCO), but ultimately I chose the Vegan Nut Protein Choco because it contains 16% hazelnuts, whereas the simple one contains only 11% hazelnuts.

Also, in comparison with the simple Choco and with other chocolate spreads, it doesn’t contain palm oil.

    It is also gluten free.

    How does it taste?

    Very good.

I used to like Nutella, but I hate it because it has tons of sugar and it is unhealthy because of the chemicals in it. If there was a Nutella BIO I would totally love it. Nutella has this amazing smell, aroma. But when you actually taste it, it is not as agood as you would expect from the smell.

In comparison, the Weider Nut Choco doesn’t smell so interesting as Nutella does, but its taste is really good, it doesn’t disappoint. I tried several hazelnut chocolate spreads, bio as well, and I truly can say that the Weider one is one of the best.

    The “crunchy” part

I was incited by the crunchy aspect of this chocolate spread. In fact, it creates a really nice experience while eating it. I definitely like it and the crunchy hazelnuts don’t feel like concrete.

    Why a protein dessert?

Amazingly, even though I eat meat almost every day, it is still pretty hard for me to get all the proteins I need. So, if I will eat a dessert, it better be useful for my health.

How much do I eat per day?

Firstly, I don’t eat it every single day.

Secondly, when I eat it, I take a small spoon of the Protein Choco and spread it on a slice of bread.

What are my concerns regarding it?

I have two major concerns. Firstly, I would like to know the origin of the hazelnuts and I would prefer them to be organic.

Secondly, I don’t trust the sweetener they use (Sucralose). I would have loved it if instead of Sucralose they would have used organic honey.

    Will I buy again?

Yes… I like eating dessert and feeling that in the same time I add something good to my diet, although I would never eat too much of such a bunch of sweets.

  • Christmas Cookies… Yummy yummy

    Christmas Cookies… Yummy yummy

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful time!

As you may know, I love Christmas cookies, especially German “Lebkuchen” (Gingerbread 🙂 ). Last year I wrote an article about the Schulte Gingerbread, which tasted amazing.

This year I’m eating the Bahlsen Akora Gingerbread, that is covered in chocolate and has a jelly heart.

Although I am not a jelly fan, I loved these ones. They weren’t dried, their texture was very good.

Bahlsen has tons of gingerbread types, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the others. Maybe next year…

Apart from the gingerbread, I’m also eating these super-cute “Zimtsterne”. They are perfect in combination with tea.

When I first saw the package, I was reticent about it. I thought they are some hard biscuits covered in sugar. I was far from truth… In fact, they are wonderful, soft cookies, filled with hazelnuts and cinnamon. A cute looking delicacy!

That’s it my friends, these are this year’s Christmas cookies.

    Happy Holidays!

  • One of my favorite Store-Bought Pies: Refletes du France – Gâteau breton à la crème de pruneaux

One of my favorite Store-Bought Pies: Refletes du France – Gâteau breton à la crème de pruneaux

Refletes du France is in fact one of my favorite food brands. I could probably eat and enjoy 90% of their products. They have 438 products and each one of them is made from a traditional french recipe and they use high quality ingredients.

Unfortunately, in my country there is available only a limited range of products. But, among this teeny-tiny range, I discovered what became my favorite pie. Yup, favorite pie.

The product is kind of funny since it comes cut in half (probably they cut it so you could see the prune cream inside).

It is called Gâteau breton à la crème de pruneaux, meaning “Breton cake with prune cream”. I wouldn’t say it is a cake, it is rather a pie-cake. They used the classic breton cake recipe and added in the middle a delicious prune cream. The pastry has the classic Breton buttery taste which always goes amazing with unsweetened tea (I also like Breton butter biscuits with tea).

Apart from its really good taste, I like the healthy ingredients. Don’t get too excited, it is not a Bio-pie, it does have some chemicals, but you won’t see palm oil or some other spooky ingredients. In fact, here is the entire list:

    • Wheat flour,
    • prune cream 25% (prune pulp 20%, sugar, water, preservative: sorbic acid),
    • sugar,
    • concentrated butter 18% (ie 22% reconstituted butter),
    • fresh eggs,
    • fresh egg yolks,
    • baking powders: diphosphates and sodium carbonates (contains wheat),
    • salt.

With tea, this prune pie makes me go … nom nom nom.

Which reminds me about my all-time favorite: Whaou crepes.

  • Plastic and Stainless Steel Straw Hysteria

Plastic and Stainless Steel Straw Hysteria

This article is about straw usage on a daily basis and states that in most cases straw usage is unnecessary. I am not writing  about out of ordinary activities that actually might require straws.

    The stainless steel straw craze

Slowly, all youtube gurus have started to use stainless steel straws. I’m just watching their videos amazed by the fact that:

    1. They need to drink with a straw.
    2. They drink all kind of stuff with a straw (lemonade, coffee, smoothies, milkshakes etc.)
    3. They don’t punch their teeth with the inox thingy.

I understand that this craze comes from the fact that people use too much plastic. But… but… but… why the need to drink everything with a straw?! Also, there may be times in life when plastic straws could actually come in handy. So why adopt extreme mesures when we could educate ourselves?

    Ways to reduce straw usage

I don’t use plastic straws not because there is a modern craze about it, but because I just simply drink what I need to drink without further complications.

    1. No junk food

Since I don’t use to eat junk food, I don’t usually drink some unhealthy juice from a big cup with a … plastic straw.

So, before ordering stainless steel straws, how about stop eating junk food and stop drinking tons of sugary water? Also, what about those cups? Aren’t those garbage as well? How about making less waste?

    2. Brew your own coffee

Since Starbucks became such a big thing, all girls started to create tons of waste because of those plastic straws and that unmistakeable Starbucks coffee cup. First of all, it is unhealthy to drink such stuff on a daily basis and secondly, it is WASTE. Buying a stainless steel straw won’t make up for all the waste you’ve been creating. And no, it is not a “small step”. It is just an extreme measure for a problem that most of these people don’t actually want to solve.

    3. Stop adding unnecessary straws

Who in the world decided 2 straws look better?! Once again, such an unnecessary waste…

    4. Just drink from the glass like a normal person

Look, a woman drinks something without a straw, from a container that actually isn’t garbage and could be used for 100 years! Incredible, right?

People, your life doesn’t need straws on a daily basis. Just… stop sucking. 🙂

  • A Healthy Breakfast – Oatmeal, Milk and More

A Healthy Breakfast – Oatmeal, Milk and More

    My breakfast

Some time ago I discovered the best breakfast I’ve ever had. It basically consists of the following ingredients:

    • oats
    • low-fat milk
    • cinnamon
    • 1/2 banana or some other fruits
    • chia or other type of seeds (sometimes)

Of course I’ve eaten oats before (and other type of cereals too), but this particular recipe is the best for me.

    The recipe:

    • I take 1/3 cup of oats, I add milk until the cup is almost full and I let the oats soak through the night (in the fridge).
    • In the morning, I heat a little bit the cup (just to get it to room temperature), I add 1/2 banana (sliced) or other fruits and some cinnamon. Sometimes I also add chia seeds, but when I do this, I must let the chia seeds soak for at least 10 minutes.

The recipe resembles a little bit with classic porridge, but I don’t have time to boil the milk and cook the oats in it. Porridge is probably good too, but takes way too much time. I just mix the oats with the milk (it takes me literally 2 minutes) and go to bed. No time for porridge in the morning either.

    Benefits of my oatmeal breakfast

    • Almost ready-made in morning, easy to eat. (If you don’t feel like preparing food, you can just grab the cup with the oatmeal, take a spoon and just eat it)
    • Healthy, good digestion
    • It’s a good start if you want to be skinny. It keeps you full and doesn’t make you fat.
    • Accessibility: you can get the ingredients from any store and also they are rather cheap.
    • You could also eat a BIO version or even a vegan one with almond milk instead of classic milk.
    • You could mix it with tons of other ingredients (seeds, fruits, even chocolate).
    • Doesn’t make you feel dizzy or sleepy or whatever after eating it. A lot of people don’t feel good after eating breakfast. Well, you will probably feel good after this breakfast (but remember to use a low-fat milk).

    Common questions

    1. Will it taste funny if it sits 10 hours (overnight) in the fridge? – Nope.
    2. Do I really need to let it overnight? – Yes. The oats are tastier if soaked and a lot healthier.
    3. What will I eat when I get bored with it? – You can’t really get bored with it because you can always add new ingredients.
    4. Will I get skinny if I eat oatmeal? – A little bit, yes.

P.S. Although my oatmeal cup isn’t very fancy (the one in the first photo), some girls really like to decorate and mix their oatmeal. I personally don’t like to play with food, but… if you really don’t have anything better to do in the morning, you could decorate your oatmeal 🙂 . Whatever you do, stay healthy!
