REVIEW: Hair Scissors Jaguar Satin Plus 5.5 inch
I got the Jaguar Satin Plus 5.5 inch hair scissors a few days ago and it wasn’t an easy decision. There are so many options when it comes to hair scissors. I ended up buying these particular scissors because they were in my budget (100€ approximately), they are made in Germany and because I like the brand.
No more white dots on your hair tips
For me, this is the most important thing. This is why I wanted a good hair scissor.
When I cut my hair with a paper scissor (the kind you get from any market), I could see little white dots on my hair tips. With the Jaguar scissors the white dots are 98% gone. I don’t say 100% because I still might see some white dots, but the difference is huge. After cutting it with this sharp scissors, the hair looks so much better.
The length is optimal
At first I was afraid that 5.5 inch might be too small, but after cutting several people’s hair, I realised that the length is really good.
I hesitated a lot between 5.5 inch and 6 inch and even 6.5 inch, but I chose the 5.5 one because I read on the internet that most people prefer this length. Now I am happy with my chioce.
Beware of Van Gogh
Since it is really sharp, it can cut the ear for example… or the finger, which was what happened to me.
Micro-serration vs. slice
There is another Jaguar hair scissors, very similar to the one I got. It is called simply Jaguar Satin, without the “Plus” and it is slightly cheaper. The difference between the two is that the “Plus” one has a “slice” cutting edge / blade and the simple one has micro-serration.
I read that scissors with micro-serration don’t need to be sharpened. The “slice” scissors will eventually need a professional sharpening. Since I use my scissors at home, at first I thought I might be a better idea to buy one that doesn’t need sharpening, since I don’t even know where to sharpen it.
But then I read that the “slice” scissors have a better, cleaner cut. And since my main interest was to avoid getting those white dots on my hair tips, I ended up choosing the slice cutting edge.
Doesn’t hurt the hand
Since I’m new at this, a haircut might take me some time, like an hour or so. Before having the Jaguar hair scissors, I used a paper scissor, and after using it some minutes, my hand started to hurt. But with the Jaguar, it is a pleasure to hold it.
How to clean this hair scissors?
Take a fine brush and gently brush off the hair remains.
Not suitable for bigger hands
The scissors are small. The circles where you place your fingers are really tiny and they definitely don’t fit a person with bigger hands.
I wonder why they are made so tiny. Probably so that the user can control the scissors really well. But if you have bigger hands, maybe you should buy something else.
Is this the best hair scissor?
In this budget, I think the Jaguar Satin Plus 5.5 inch hair scissors is a pretty good choice. It looks nice, it is easy to use, it cuts the hair really well.
How do I cut my hair?
There are some videos on Youtube that I prefer. I wrote an article about them and about the steps that I follow when cutting my hair.
